DirectoR’S Report
![]()
With Dave “Hoot’n” Hartree
Hello members and welcome to the next edition of the newsletter. What a blast Renner Springs was on the long weekend, thank you to all that managed to come along and make it such a good time in good company,
it certainly ranks up there with last
years event,
even if it wasn’t so close
in the Iron Man. Thanks go to Judy
and her
crew at Renner Springs for their hospitality
and
also
to Alice
Springs Chapter
for being
the
Host
Chapter. Next year Mount Isa will be the hosting chapter, so lets give
them some support and
have
a
strong
presence at next year’s event. It was
good to
have
so
many from
all
three chapters
making
the
event
truly Tri Chapter and
to have come away with a stronger
bond
with our neighbouring
chapters.
I was also
glad to
see
Ripper
stop in and socialise
for a short while on one of his shifts, and likewise appreciative
of
The Iron Men
Ian
Squire’s
stop
on
his way down south leaving us a
couple of gifts of his own special “anti-freeze” to help chase that cold desert air away. With a bit of luck
we should see a few members from Mount Isa
and
Alice Springs make it back
for the NT Rally in August.
I would like to pass on my thanks to Swoop and the rest of the members that were able to supply
bikes
for our display at the Shannon’s Car and Bike Show, it was looking like we were not going to have
a presence at this show, but we did end up with 6 bikes in our allocated
area, lets hope we can have a
better turnout next year.
Rider’s Awareness Week followed
the
Shannon’s event and
the
only
function
of this
week I attended was the dinner held at the Rox in Mitchell St. It was a very good night out with sensational food
and although numbers were a little down than expected, a solid foundation for the RAW has been
laid.
I would like to remind everyone that registration for the NT Rally at Batchelor closes on 1st July,
so please get your paperwork in if you wish to attend.
Big thanks go to Geoff, Jo, and Lauren for their tireless efforts for the club, Geoff for making his shed available to us to hold our meetings, Jo for organising all the catering at our meetings, and Lauren
for her solid work manning the refreshment booth. Your efforts are appreciated and noticed
even though
we may
not always acknowledge the
fact. Hopefully Geoff
can now spend time on his own projects
Moving on to upcoming
events, I would like to draw your attention to
the
following dates:
· Friday July 6th: Club Monthly
Meeting at Geoff’s
Shed.
· Saturday July
7th: Sausage Sizzle at NTMC 10:00 – 12:00, NT
Drag Titles from 7:00pm
· Saturday July
21st: Overnight ride to Adelaide River (To be confirmed by Activities Officer)
· Friday 27th-Sunday 29th: Darwin Show Long Weekend
· Friday 3rd-Monday 6th
August: Darwin Cup Long Weekend, HOG NT Rally 2007.
I think I’ve waffled on enough now, but before I finish I would just
like
to
say
that it is good to see a few
members from
Nhulunbuy getting
over
here and doing
some decent
riding,
down to Alice Springs and over to
Kununurra,
which
I’m told by Dan and Dan that even if it was so damn cold down Alice
way, it sure beats the 26 kms of sealed road that they get to
ride
over at Nhulunbuy. I may have even tempted them to join
us on
our run to the
National Rally in October.

ASSISTANT DirectoR’S Report

With Mick “Swoop” Luke
Hi all, it was
good to see
Alice Springs and Mt
Isa turn out in
good numbers at the
Tri-Chapter
Challenge, but again we brought home the trophy. The weather
was a little cold, but nothing like a nice
fire a few drinks and a toast bed to crawl into at the wee hours of the morning. Yes the electric blanket worked great; nothing like roughing it hard in the outback.
The swimming challenge was just that little bit cold,
but once you broke the ice on the surface and your heart slowed down to a pace were you could
feel
it beat every 10 seconds,
it wasn’t that bad. To everyone's amazement, I made one lap, then two to win by a couple of lengths, thanks to one competitor hitting
the wall
half
way along, thinking it was the
end. By the
way, feeling is now coming back into my legs and the frost bite
should be gone soon.
Thanks to Alice Springs for putting on a great weekend and the staff at
Renner
Springs
for putting
up with us once
again.
The Werewolf
III
run held
by the Ulysses Club
Saturday
night to Corroboree
was another great night
they have
organised. Food was great, and the
turn-out of our members was good. It may have been a cool ride out but
coming home I had to keep
breaking the ice from
my glasses. A few off us saw the electricity go out later in the
Into the freezing
pool. . . (Mick is the centre swimmer)
night, but we missed
the boxing
match that happened after we left. Apparently when the power did finally
come on, some did not like what they saw, and proceeded to
rearrange it.
It was good to see on the July 1st run a few new members and a good turn out of older members (long time, not old as in Ch…). A good afternoon was had by all, with everyone sticking close to the new limit
of
150, hang on 130. With the ride finished it, was time to get your explosives and head down to Paul's
place, where things went off. Some things went off in a big way, with fun had by all, especially
our new Olympic runner Geoff; he should be a hurdler. Good to see Doods had close supervision by the kids as
things
may have got
out of
hand.
I
am sure
those things have written
on
them “Do not use unless supervised by a child” as they are DANGEROUS.
Thanks to Paul and his other half for a great feed, nice warm fire, good company and a good night had
by all. Ride on Swoop

Jokes
As an elderly lady was boarding the plane, she said to the flight attendant, "Do these things crash very often?"
The attendant replied, "No, just once!"
You know sometimes I get the sudden urge to run around naked.
But then I just drink some Windex.
It keeps me from streaking.
A psychiatrist's receptionist said, "A gentleman in the waiting room wants to see you. Claims he's invisible." The
psychiatrist responded, "Tell him I can't see him."
A 2006 study found that the average fisherman walks about 900 miles a year.
Another study found that Americans drink an average of 22 gallon
of beer a year.
That means, on average, Fishermen get about 41 miles per gallon.

Once again, a warm “thank you” to everyone who has taken the trouble to send in something for the newsletter.
This month, we’ve restarted the Member Profile section. I’ve emailed a profile form to selected members, and have received two back. (Thanks Mick and PT). If you received one, it would be really appreciated if you would take a moment to fill it in and send it back to me. Don’t worry if you can’t find a photo of yourself – I’m sure I’ll be able to find one in
my files.
Heh
heh. If you want
to be
a
“conscientious
objector”,
please
just
drop me a line.
I’ll
understand. Truly.
We’ve had a lot of comments about what a hoot of a time we all had at the Tri
Chapter
Challenge
at Renner, so I won’t guild
the
lily.
For
my part,
I’d
like
to thank
Doods
and Michelle for trusting
me
to drive their
Toyota GXL, when “The Commodore” didn’t want to pull the trailer, and
also trusting me with the most precious cargo of all: Dylan. (I have fond memories of overtaking a car and a little 4 year old voice from the back
saying “Don’t forget you’re towing
the
trailer!”.) Thanks also to
those
gentlemen who helped with getting my bike on and off Doods’ trailer.

Would just like to add that, after crawling around on hands and scabby,
bruised knees and elbow (don’t ask) in what is euphemistically termed a “3-man”
-
more like
three
minnow
-
tent, yours truly
has gone
out
and
bought one that she can actually stand up in. This spatially-challenged
person hasn’t tried to put it up yet, so there’re some laughs in store for
any future audiences to the first “erection of the edifice”.
To mundane matters: closing date for the August newsletter is Friday 20th July 07, so please send your ads, jokes,
ride reports, photos etc to me at hogdarwin@gmail.com on or before that date.
Enjoy your riding

ROAD CAPTAIN’s report
With
Phill “Krasha” Alexander
Firstly may I say thank you and congratulations to a small but hardy crew of Darwinites that took the
tri-chapter trophy down for the rest of them to look at and then brought it home where it belongs, well done lads
and lassies.
Secondly due to a large change in home and work circumstances I have not attended as many rides as I would like
to have. On the few I have attended I have noticed a few things that I believe should be brought up. (Please note
that this is not me being prissy and thinking that the RC should not be overtaken, on the contrary there are certain roads where I expect certain members to overtake.)
These
are not necessarily club ride rules but common sense ROAD RULES
.
When riding in a group and you find yourself a little bit down the pack, please wait your turn to overtake, try not to
race from the middle order to the front because this has huge potential to be a clusterf***k. Your turn will come.
When it becomes
your
turn to
overtake,
please do
so
safely.
IE. Pull out into
the
RIGHT hand
side therefore overtaking,
not
what has been done to
me
on more
than
one occasion
recently
and pass
on the left
hand side which is known as undertaking. This is a dangerous practice and should not be done on an open road.
Sorry to sound like I am teaching my granny to suck eggs, that is not my intention, but I have seen both bad habits
performed in a very short time.
Be safe out there
Krasha.

Quiz Answer
To refresh your memory, here it is:
Psychopath Test
(alias the
Suzie
Kapeller logic equation)
Read this question, then try to answer it. This is not a trick question. It is as it reads. No one I know
has got it right.
A woman, while at the
funeral of her
own mother, met a
guy whom she did not know. She
thought this guy was amazing. She believed him to be her dream guy so much, that she fell in love with him right
there, but never asked for his number and could not find him.
A few days later she
killed her sister.
Question: What is her
motive for killing her sister? Give this some thought before you answer.
And the Answer?
She was hoping the guy would appear at the funeral again.
If you answered this correctly, you think like a psychopath. This was a test by a famous
American Psychologist used to test if one has the same mentality as a killer. Many arrested serial killers took part in the test and answered the question correctly.
If you didn't answer the question correctly, good for you!
If you got the answer correct, please let me know so I can take
you off my email list..
Tech Talk
With Charlie “MadDog” Caden
Well what can I say about the long weekend in Renner? No one broke down, and for those who didn't
go, you made a big mistake. It would have been one of the best weekends and club challenges I have been
to, so I suggest you put your name down for next year and
make it better. Mt
Isa
and
Alice put
on
a
great show and although we won again, they will be back bigger and better next
year, so we need to put
on
a bigger show.
